L'économie circulaire du carbone

Programme

Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) is among the key technologies necessary to meeting the net-zero emissions objectives of the Paris Agreement and to decarbonizing energy, heavy industry, and manufacturing. Yet, the fit between CCUS and the principles of the circular economy is imperfect. Due to the scale and urgency of the emissions problem, and limited capacity for carbon engineering, the great majority of carbon that is immediately captured with will disposed of, rather that used. So too, if it fails to adequately account for atmospheric emissions, the plan for circular economy will
remain imperfect. This colloquium proposes a dynamic exchange between researchers in CCUS and circular economy with the objective of identifying opportunities to better align european emissions and CCUS regulations with circular economy policies.

La capture, l'utilisation et le stockage du carbone (CCUS) sont des technologies nécessaires pour atteindre les objectifs de l'Accord de Paris et pour décarboner différents secteurs d’activité (énergie, industrie, construction, etc.). Pourtant, l'adéquation entre le CCUS et les principes de l'économie circulaire est imparfaite. L'ampleur et l'urgence du problème des émissions, ainsi que la capacité limitée de l'ingénierie du carbone, signifie qu’au moins au début la grande majorité du carbone qui est capturé sera éliminée plutôt qu'utilisée. De même, tant qu'il ne prendra pas en compte de manière adéquate les émissions atmosphériques, la démarche d’économie circulaire restera imparfaite. Ce colloque propose un échange dynamique entre les chercheurs en CCUS et en économie circulaire dans le but d'identifier les possibilités de mettre en adéquation les réglementations internes et européennes en matière d'émissions et de CCUS avec les politiques d'économie circulaire.
